What should I do if my friend forwarded a message that claims I will fail a subject if I don't forward it, and it states I must forward it to 20 people in the name of the Kalima for my wish to come true?

You should never forward such messages at all because it contains threatening others and scaring them if they don't do something which is never stated in Quran or by the Prophet (SAWA) or Ahlul Bayt (AS).

Is it true, as stated by my grandfather, that reciting "la ilaha ilAllah alf" has the same reward as reciting the Shahada a thousand times?

Reciting La Ilaaha Illallah لا إله إلا الله  brings great rewards, and repeating it brings more rewards. There is a Hadeeth stating that if the Muslim recites La Ilaaha Ilalallah 100 times in a day, he will get the maximum reward on that day except those who recited more than him.

Could it be that a person's intentions of saying "La ilaha illallah" were enough if they only managed to say "La ilaha" before passing away, or will they be punished for their words?
