Ubdaydallah ibn Ziyad's Sermon & Shahada of Qays ibn Musahhar al-Saydawi - Today In Muharram Day 4

Bismi-Llah, Al-Rahmani, Al-Rahim. On this day, the Fourth of Muharram, 'Ubdayd Allah ibn Ziyad ibn abih, delivered his sermon in Masjid al-Kufa.

'Ubdayd Allah ibn Ziyad was Yazid's governor of Kufa. He was ruthless and bloodthirsty. He was the strongest and most influential person after Yazid, playing a major role in suppressing the uprising of Imam Husayn alayhi as-salam. And continued with his atrocious behaviour after Karbalah as well. He arrested Imam Husayn's Safir, Muslim Ibni Aqil alayhi, as-salam, and killed him along with of course Hani Ibni Urwah.

Ibn Ziyad started his sermon by praising the Aal Abi Sufian, family and Yazid of course. Promising people more money and status. And then he gave his final message of Yazid which was he has ordered me to call you to participate in the campaign against his enemy, Al-Husayn. Hence you should listen and you should obey him.

'Ubdayd Allah ibn Ziyad ordered all the roads and paths leading to Kufa Or Karbala to be blocked, preventing anyone from joining the revolution of Imam Husayn. Not to mention of course the thousands that were already in their prisons.

He then sent army regiments one after the other. On this day as well, before Karbala another of Imam Husayn's not so known deputies was martyred. His name was Qays Ibn Musahar, Al-Saydawi, Al-Asadi. A noble and courageous man who had unconditional loyalty and love to Ahl ul-Bayt, alayhi as-salam. He was deployed as an envoy to carry and receive Imam Husayn's letters to the Kufans and he did this a few times without any issues.

This was of course with the utmost level of secrecy, because of the strong intelligence network of the Umayyads. In his last deployment, Imam Husayn sent a letter with him for Muslim Ibni Aqil in Kufa. Qays Ibn Musahar arrived close to Kufa but was caught by the evil Al-Husayn Ibn Numair. Al-Husayn [Ibn Numair] asked him what he was doing and Qays of course knew of the danger and of his fate. So he tore up the letter so it doesn't fall into their hands.

He was then taken to obey the 'Ubdayd Allah ibn Ziyad, refused to give him any information, was asked to curse Imam Husayn, but of course he refused to do so. He did exactly the opposites cursing 'Ubdayd Allah ibn Ziyad, praising Imam Ali, praising Imam Husayn. He was tortured and then he was martyred to be among the As-hab of Imam Husayn, alladhina badhalu muhajahum dun al-Husayn, alayhi as-salam. Wa al-hamdulil-Lahi Rabbi al-‘Alamin.
