The Holy Progeny taken as Captives to Kufah - Today in Muharram Day 11
Bismi-Llah, Al-Rahmani, Al-Rahim On this day, the 11th of Muharram, Umar Ibn Sa'ad divided the blessed severed heads of the Shuhada' among the army groups, so that each group can present something to Ubayd Allah Ibn Ziyad.
Imam Husayn alayhi as-salam's blessed head had left Karbala on Ashura day itself. Already being sent to Ibn Ziyad in Kufa.
Umar Ibn Sa'ad gave the command to prepare their own dead soldiers for burial. He prayed over them, and they were then buried. While we see that Imam Husayn alayhi as-salam and the other Shu'hada were left without burial.
Ibn Sa'ad then ordered the women, the children, and anyone left to be imprisoned and taken as captives to Kufa. The command was that the daughters of Nabuwwah be put on camels without saddles. Imam As-Sajjad, alayhi as-salam, our fourth Imam, was chained up and also put on a camel without a saddle.
The remaining members of Ahl ul-Bayt, alayhum as-salam, were gathered up as captives and they left Karbala just before sunset. To add further grief to the bereaved sabaya, if they had not perpetrated enough evil, Umar Ibn Sa'ad made the qafila, the caravan of captives, go past the battlefield to see the blessed headless bodies of the Shu'hada laying there on the plains of Karbala.
Of course, when the women and the children saw this massacre they wept and wailed so much that even the camels stopped. As-Sayyida Zaynab, salamu Allahi alayha, saw the blessed body of Imam Husayn and she shouted out: "as-salamu alayka ya dhabihan min al-qafa! [Peace be upon you, o slaughtered one!]. Then she said, Ya, Muhammada! Salla alayka malik us-sama'! Hadha Husaynun bi l'ara', murammalu bi 'd-dima, muqattahu al-adha', wa banatuka sabaya, ila Allahi al-mushtaka, wa ila Muhammadi al-Mustafa, wa ila Aliyy al-Murtadha, wa ila Fatimat uz-Zahra', wa ila Hamzati sayyid ash-Shu'ada' [O Muhammad! May the King of the Heavens bless you! This is Husayn in the open plains! Stained with his blood. His limbs are severed. And these are your daughters, taken as captives. Only to God we complain, and to Muhammad al-Mustafa, and to 'Ali al-Murtada, and to Fatimat uz-Zahra', and to Hamzah the Chief of martyrs].
Il man yas'alu ya Zaynab! Ya Zaynab, ajibini!]
Later this same night, they arrived at the outskirts of Kufa, and were forced to stay there until the next morning. Wa al-hamdulil-Lahi Rabbi al-‘Alamin.
