Verse 66 of Surah Nahl

Salamun ʿalaykum wa Rahmatu Allah, dear brothers and sisters, and welcome to clip number 14 of these clips of the month of Ramadan. In this clip, we're going to discuss verse 66 from Surah An-Nahl.

And in this verse, Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala is going to take something that is very ordinary for us, it is very normal for us, and He's going to explain to us the extraordinary process, from which it is produced. And this is one of the themes that you find in the verses of the Quran, because Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala, quite frankly, and quite frequently, He will take things that are natural phenomena, things that we find around us all the time, and then He will explain how they come to fruition, how they are created in order to show the meticulous creation that He is putting into all of this.

This phenomenon that the verse of the Quran is going to highlight on verse 66 of Surah Al-Nahl is the phenomenon of milk, this drink that we have all the time, many of us might have it every single morning. And it is something that we drink and we as just assume it is very easy for it to be created. In reality, Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala describes in this verse how He brings it about. And when you look at the process, then the normal cup of milk that you and I used to have, now becomes this extraordinary phenomenon.

So the verse says: “wa inna lakum fi al-anʿami laʿibrah” (16:66), when you look at the cattle, when you look at the animals, there is a lesson in them for you. "Nusqikum mimma fi butunihi” (16:66), We have you drink from those things that are in their bellies, the liquids that they have in their bellies; it's referring to milk. Then Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala in one short sentence explains where this milk comes from. Because when we look at milk, the color is a bright color, it's a white color, and it's a very pure drink, and at the same time it's extremely delicious, right? When you drink it, you like it, you enjoy it.

So Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala says, this pure milk, with its beautiful color and its wonderful taste, it comes from in between two things that are extremely dirty. In fact, two things that are in fact najis (impure). He says we give you from the milk, “min bayni farthin wa damin” (16:66), this milk comes to you through the process that Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala is using, from in between the waste. So on one hand you have waste that is extremely dirty, it is najis, it is filthy and we want to stay away from it. “ wa damin” (16:66), and on the other side you have blood and this is inside the body of the animal.

So Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala is saying from inside the body of this animal, on one hand you have waste, on the other hand you have blood, and in the middle of all of this chaos, we bring about this milk "saʾighan lil-sharibin” (16:66), (pleasant to drink), that's so delicious that you drink it and you have a wonderful time.

So Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala is taking this ordinary drink for us and explaining the extraordinary process that it comes from. That this milk that's so pure, in reality, Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala is making it move in between the waste of the animal, the body of the animal, as well as the blood, and somehow, some way, Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala works His “magic,” and all of a sudden you have a drink and a milk that you would really want to drink, even though the body of this animal was producing this blood and this waste and things that you would never even come close to.

This is the creation of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala and one of His signs.
