What You Can Learn From A Fly - 17/29 - 30 Verses For 30 Days 2022
Verse 73 of Surah al-Hajj
Salamun ʿalaykum, dear brothers and sisters, and welcome to clip number 17 of this month of Ramadan. In this clip, we're going to discuss verse 73 from Surah Al-Hajj.
In this verse, Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala is trying to explain how little authority the disbelievers - how little authority people who are outside of the Wilayah and the authority of Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala are - how little authority they have and how weak they are in reality. Meaning, that if Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala did not want to allow them to do the things that they are doing, they wouldn't have been able to do so.
And in order to get this point across, Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala uses an analogy and He points to a very interesting situation that we have all dealt with, and that is when a fly starts flying towards you. Well, sometimes we are speaking, I know I have experienced this myself and I Am sure many of us have, you might be sitting somewhere, imagine a wonderful day where you're having a picnic. Right? And there's just one fly that won't let you go, right? There's just one fly, that will just want to ruin your day essentially.
And the whole lesson lies in the fact that, that one fly, if it doesn't want to leave, there's no getting rid of it. So you can try as hard as you want to, if it doesn't want to leave, it will ruin your whole picnic essentially. It'll sit on the bread, it'll sit on everything, right?
This is what Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala says. So He says, “ya ayyuha an-nas ḍuriba mathalun fa-stamiʿu lah ” (22:73). O people, I'm gonna give you an example, an analogy, so pay attention to it, listen to it. “Inna alladhina tadʿuna min duni Allah” (22:73). Those things and people that you call other than Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala. Might be the idols or it might be for you and I, people who we rely on more than Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala. Those people; “lan yakhluqu dhubaban wa lawi ijtamaʿu lah" (22:73).They cannot even create a fly, even if they all come together and put their powers together.
And this is very real. Imagine if you wanted to create something, even today, with all the technological progress that we have had, imagine trying to create something that's like a real life fly. It's extremely difficult, actually, if you think about it. He says, you're not able to do that. And even when the human being is able to do that, he's able to do it with the mind that Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala gave to him.
Then He continues, He says, “wa in yaslubhumu al-dhubabu shayʾan la yastanqidhuhu minh” (22:73), and He says, and if this fly were to come and take something from them... Let's say he comes and takes like a little crumb of bread, which human being can stop this fly? No human being can stop this fly. It's completely powerless, right? And Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala says, this is how powerless everything else in this world is outside of My creation.
Just like we said, if that fly wants to ruin the picnic, there is nothing you can do about it. You could get the most powerful people, you can get the most power in the world to try to stop it. It's not gonna end.
This is what Allah Subhana wa Ta'ala is showing us, how weak we are as human beings and how we have to rely on the One who created that annoying fly, and the One who created that fly who can annoy anyone and you can't do anything about it.
