I'tikaf is a highly recommended act in which the Muslim must remain worshiping Allah inside a Masjid for minimum of three days including its nights.

Shia Muslims perform I'tikaf where ever they find a suitable Masjid where they can remain inside it for three days for worshiping Allah.

We have many authentic Hadeeths in Shia books narrated from the Prophet and Ahlul Bayt about I'tikaf. You can see Al-Tahtheeb, V. 4, p. 291 to 293, and al-Istibsaar, v.2, p.128 and 316, and Wasa'il al-Shia , volume 10 where you can see lot of Hadeeths about I'tikaf.

I'tikaf can not be performed but only in the main Masjids or at least a masjid and it can not be done in Islamic center which is not a Masjid or at home etc.

Wassalam.
