28. Forgetting What Is Behind

We all go through disappointments, setbacks and things that we do not understand. Maybe you prayed for a loved one, but they did not get well. On the other hand, maybe you worked hard for a promotion, but you did not get it. You stood in faith for a relationship, but it did not work out. One of the best things you can do is release it. Let it go. Do not dwell on it anymore. If you go around wondering why things did not work out, all that will do is lead to bitterness, resentment and self-pity. Before long, you will be blaming others, blaming yourself, or even God. Qur’an says,

Verily, human is a very greedy and impatient creature. When some harm touches him, he is Fretful and keeps complaining, and when wealth and bounty come to Him he is miser, [avoids spending on the needy]”. (Qur’an; 70: 19-21)1

You may not understand what happened. It may not have been fair, but when you release it, it is an act of your faith. You are saying, “God, I trust You. I know You are in control. Moreover, even though it did not work out my way, You said, ‘All things are going to work together for my good.’ So I believe You still have something good in my future.”

There is power in letting go of the past and the frustration of trying to figure everything out. When you release your questions, you are saying, “God, You are in control. I trust You.

I entrust my affair to God. Indeed God sees best the servants”. (Qur’an; 40:44)2

When you put your hope in God that is when He can heal your heart and lead you forward into victory.

Anyone who puts his trust in God, then He suffices him”. (Qur’an; 65:3)3
