Asking For Divine Pardon
Tradition n. 437
قالَ الإمامُ أَميرُ المُؤمنينَ عَلِيٌّ عليه السلام :
تَعَطَّرُوا بِال اِس تِغفارِ لا تَف ضَحَنَّكُم رَوايِـحُ الذُّنُوبِ.
Imam Amir al-Mu’minin ‘Ali (‘a) said: “Perfume yourself with penitence so that the stench of your sins do not disgrace you.”

Tradition n. 438
قالَ الإمامُ أَميرُ المُؤمنينَ عَلِيٌّ عليه السلام :
اَل حَمدُ لِلّهِ عَلى كُلِّ نِع مَةٍ، وَ أَس أَلُ اللّهَ مِن كُلِّ خَيرٍ وَ أَعُـوذُ بِاللهِ مِن كُلِّ شَرٍّ، وَ أَس تَغ فِرُ اللّهَ مِن كُلِّ ذَن بٍ.
Imam Amir al-Mu’minin ‘Ali (‘a) taught someone to seek Allah in invocation in brief by saying: “Praise is (only) Allah's for every blessing; and I ask Him for all goodness; and I take refuge in Allah from all vices; and, I seek Allah's forgiveness for all sins.”

Tradition n. 439
عَن أَبي جَع فَرٍ مُحَمَّدِ ب نِ عَلِـيٍّ الباقِـرِ عليه السلام قالَ سُئِـلَ رَسُولُ الله صلی الله عليه و آله و سلم عَن خِيارِ العِبادِ، فَقالَ: إذا أَح سَنُوا اِس تَب شَرُوا، وَ إذا اَساؤُوا اِس تََغ فَرُوا، وَ إذا أُع طُوا شَكَرُوا، وَ إذ اُب تُلُوا صَبَرُوا، وَ إذا غَضِبُوا غَفَرُوا.
Imam al-Baqir (‘a) said that the Holy Prophet (S) was once asked about the best servants and he replied:
“They are such that: when they do good, they are cheerful about it; when they do wrong, they seek forgiveness; when they are granted (something), they are thankful; when they are involved in a difficulty, they show patience; and when they become angry (with someone), they pardon.”

Tradition n. 440
قالَ الإمامُ الصّادِقُ عليه السلام :
إذا أَك ثَرَ العَبدُ مِنَ ال اِس تِِغ فارِ رُفِعَت صَحِيفَتُهُ وَ هِيَ تَتَلَأ لَأُ.
Imam as-Sadiq (‘a) said: “When a believing Muslim frequently asks Allah for forgiveness, his record (of deeds) will ascend while it will be glowing.”
