This claim is not from Sunni Muslims but from Wahabi sect. Sunni and Shia scholars believe that reciting any Quranic verses or chapters and gifting its reward to the deceased helps the deceased as well as the reciter. Fatwa centre in Egypt ( Daar Al-Iftaa' Al-Masriah دار الإفتاء المصرية) has published a verdict (Fatwa) in Al-Watan newspaper confirming this.
