Salah (Prayers)

Salah ("worship", ‏صلاة‎; pl. ‏صلوات‎ ṣalawāt; also salat), or namāz (Persian: نَماز‎) in some languages, is one of the Five Pillars in the faith of Islam and an obligatory religious duty for every Muslim (Male & Female, with certain exemptions based on Taqwa). It is a physical, mental, and spiritual act of worship that is observed five times every day at prescribed times.

1. We follow the authentic Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) taken from the most authentic and most knowledgeable source who are the Prophet’s own Progeny (Ahlul Bayt). We never accept fabricated narrations no matter what was the reason behind the fabrication.

2. There no authentic narrations that the Prophet Muhammad (SAWA) ever folding hands during are Salah. This fact was admitted by many leading Sunni scholars including Al-Azhar Sunni scholars in the book (Fiqh Al-Sunnah) and many other Sunni scholars.

3. No Sunni scholar could say that folding hands in Salah is obligatory. Imam Malik of the Maliki Sunni sect rejected folding hand in Salah.(Al-Mughni by Ibn Qudamah;514).

4. Had they have any authentic narration that the Prophet ever hooded his hands during Salah, they should have said that it is an obligatory act as all Muslims say that following the acts of the Proohet (SAWA) is obligatory.

5. Ahlul Bayt (AS) who are the most knowledgeable and the most authentic after the Prophet (SAWA) have clearly objected on folding hands during Salah and said that it is an act came from Non Muslims. Ahlul Bayt (AS) ordered Muslims not to fold hands during Salah (Al-Khisal by al-Sadouq , V.2 , P. 161). Also in Qutb Al-Isnaad 95 and Biharul Anwaar, V. 10 m P. 277.

Athaan أذان and Iqama are recommended and we say Ashhadu Anna Aliyyan Waliyyullah being the main fact of proper faith after Tawheed and Nubowwah. This was been announced in Athaan immediately after Ghadeer Khum decleratiin.

Tashahhud is not recommended but obligatory. In Tashahhud we are bound to say exactly what was been said by the Prophet (SAWA) and Ahlul Bayt (AS). All  authentic Hadeeths from Prophet and Ahlul Bayt teaching us Tashahhud have the same Tashahhud with out adding any sentence on it. Mentioning Ameerul Mo;mineen (AS) in Tashahhud is allowed or recommended as part of supplication like (ALLAHUMMA SALLI Ala Aliyyin AMEERIL Mo;mineen) and not as a part of Tashahhud. Du’a is permissible in every part in Salah, but Tashahhud must be recited as it was recited by the Prophet. and Ahlul Bayt (AS).

You may contact your Marje' of Taqleed and write full details of the situation and the reasons, then wait for his reply.

If you are sure that your Wudhu or Ghusl were invalid for invalid reason, you will then need to redo your prayers.

'If you mean by prayers the supplications, then yes,bit is allowed to supplicate in your own language but Prayers (Salah) must be performed in Arabic.

The Treatise of Haj Sayyid Ali Sistani

Issue 1206: Observing Length in Recitation

The scholars of Tajwid have stated that if there is a “waw” in a word and the letter before it has a “dammah” (ـُ) and the letter after the “waw” is a hamzah, such as in the word “سُوْء,” the “waw” should be prolonged; that is, it should be stretched. Similarly, if there is an “alif” in a word and the letter before the “alif” has a “fathah” (ـَ) and the letter after the “alif” is a hamzah, such as in “جآء” or “مَلآئِکَة,” the “alif” should be stretched. Additionally, if there is a “ya” in a word and the letter before the “ya” has a “kasrah” (ـِ) and the letter after the “ya” is a hamzah, such as in “جیٖء,” the “ya” should be recited with length. If after these letters (“waw,” “alif,” and “ya”) there is a letter that is either silent or has a shaddah instead of a hamzah, the length should also be maintained for these three letters.

However, it seems that the correctness of the recitation in such cases does not necessarily require lengthening, and stretching or prolonging is not mandatory. Therefore, if one does not follow the aforementioned instruction, the prayer is still valid. However, in the case of “وَلَا الضّآلّینَ,” where a certain amount of length is needed for the accurate pronunciation of the shaddah and “alif,” one must prolong it to the extent that “alif” and the shaddah of “lam” are pronounced. If one reads it as “وَلَا الضَّلِّینَ” (without “alif”) or “وَلَا الضّٰالینَ” (without the shaddah on “lam”), it is not correct.

The reward of performing Qadha Prayer is greater than performing recommended prayers. No doubt, performing both is much better, but if you have no other option but perform either Qadha or recommended prayer,b then Qadha is first because it is obligatory.

When Ghusl is obligatory for any reason including sinful acts, it remains obligatory till Ghusl is been performed. All Prayers and fasts which were performed with out Ghusl must be made up as Qadha.

If you are not sure about the exact numbers of days or prayers , you must take the number which is confirmed and make it up. Making more days up is a precaution.

Bismihi ta'ala

We pray as the holy Prophet (s.a.w.) prayed, and he did not fold his arms during his prayer. This is something even Sunni scholars acknowledge. Sunni Malikis also do not fold their arms in salat.

Ahlul Bayt (a.s.) were the closest to the Prophet (s.a.w.), and in the Ja'fari jurisprudence, hands must be to the side, as did the Prophet (s.a.w.).

For this reason, it is haram to legislate anything not a part of the shari'ah, which means that folding of arms would be haram and the prayer would be invalid.

This is the common view of Shi'i jurists.

And Allah knows best.
