Salamun Alaikum,
I started earning in September 2024 and have been saving monthly. I plan to buy gold jewelry for my wedding soon and want to start paying khums annually from July 22.
- Do I need to pay khums on this saved money before buying the gold, even though it’s less than a year old?
- Once I fix July 22 as my khums date, should I pay khums on all money in my account, even if some was received recently?
- In the past, I received scholarship funds that stayed unused for over a year but were later spent on personal needs. Do I owe khums retroactively on that?
Jazakum Allahu Khayran.

Khums is obligatory on everything you lawfully own, on the date of your Khums, if it is not in use for your day to day life requirements. There is Khums on items you have purchased and started using like jewelry, clothes, car, house where you live, etc.
Wassalam.
