Did The Prophet Muhammad (S) Know About Karbala?
Assalamu alaykum, wa Rahmatu Allah. I hear this question all the time: did the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family know about Karbala, and about the martyrdom of Imam al-Husayn, alayhi as-salam?
And indeed, the answer to this question relates to a Prophetic miracle. Many times people ask, did the prophets have any miracles? And one of the miracles that the Prophet, peace be upon him and his family had, was that he was given the earth or the clay of Karbala even before the battle of Karbala had taken place.
Because the Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, was sitting with his wife Umm Salama one day and he narrated to her that Jibra'il, alayhi as-salam, had come to him and had given him some of the earth of Karbala. When he gave him some of the earth of Karbala, the Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, took that earth, placed it on his eyes, and then Jibra'il, alayhi as-salam, told him, "Oh Prophet of God, your grandson Husayn will be martyred on the plains of Karbala.
Rasul Allah, salla Allahu alayhi wa alih, over 50 years before the events that transpired on the plains of Karbala, over 50 years, he tells Umm Salama, "Umm Salama, here is the clay. Hold on to this clay. When you hold on to it, there will be a day that this clay changes into blood. At that moment, know that my grandson Husayn has been killed."
Imagine this clay, the earth of Karbala which many people always ask us, Why do you prostrate on earth and especially the earth of Karbala? Because our Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, showed so much love and reverence to the earth the clay of Karbala. He gives it to his wife, Umm Salama. And people knew that he had given the clay of Karbala to his wife, Umm Salama. They were waiting for the day when that clay would turn into blood.
One day, Umm Salama wakes up in her dream. She has seen the Holy Prophet, peace be upon him and his family, after he has passed away. And he tells her, "Umm Salama, Husayn has been killed!" She wakes up, she goes to look at the clay and the clay has turned into blood. And it was at that moment that she knew that Husayn had been killed on the plains of Karbala.
Therefore, did the prophets of Allah, Subhana wa Ta'ala, mourn Imam al-Husayn, alayhi as-salam? Yes, they did. Rasul Allah, salla Allahu alayhi wa alih, certainly did. And he mourned Imam al-Husayn alayhi as-salam's martyrdom years before the martyrdom had taken place. And therefore, for us, in the same way that he mourned, we continue to mourn until today.

Rasul Allah, salla Allahu alayhi wa alih, sagt über 50 Jahre vor den Ereignissen, die sich auf den Ebenen von Kerbala zugetragen haben, über 50 Jahre, zu Umm Salama: "Umm Salama, hier ist der Lehm. Halte dich an diesem Lehm fest. Wenn du ihn festhältst, wird es einen Tag geben, an dem sich dieser Lehm in Blut verwandelt. In diesem Augenblick sollst du wissen, dass mein Enkel Husayn getötet wurde."
Stellen Sie sich diesen Lehm vor, die Erde von Karbala, von der uns viele Menschen immer wieder fragen: "Warum werft ihr euch auf die Erde und insbesondere auf die Erde von Karbala nieder? Weil unser Prophet, Friede sei mit ihm und seiner Familie, der Erde, dem Lehm von Kerbala, so viel Liebe und Ehrfurcht entgegenbrachte. Er schenkt sie seiner Frau Umm Salama. Und die Menschen wussten, dass er den Lehm von Kerbala seiner Frau Umm Salama gegeben hatte. Sie warteten auf den Tag, an dem sich dieser Lehm in Blut verwandeln würde.
Eines Tages wacht Umm Salama in ihrem Traum auf. Sie hat den Heiligen Propheten, Friede sei mit ihm und seiner Familie, gesehen, nachdem er gestorben war. Und er sagt ihr: "Umm Salama, Husayn ist getötet worden!" Sie wacht auf, sieht sich den Lehm an, und der Lehm hat sich in Blut verwandelt. Und in diesem Moment wusste sie, dass Husayn in den Ebenen von Kerbala getötet worden war.
Haben die Propheten Allahs, Subhana wa Ta'ala, Imam al-Husayn, alayhi as-salam, also betrauert? Ja, das haben sie. Rasul Allah, salla Allahu alayhi wa alih, tat dies sicherlich. Und er trauerte um Imam al-Husayn alayhi as-salam's Martyrium Jahre bevor das Martyrium stattgefunden hatte. Und deshalb trauern wir in der gleichen Weise, wie er trauerte, bis heute weiter.
